Information sheet on proposed logging in the Strathbogie Forest

A meeting was held on the 22nd February 2014 at the Strathbogie Memorial Hall about the proposed logging  of 11 coupes in the Strathbogie Forest by the end of 2016. This information sheet (click on the link) was distributed at the meeting.

The community meeting heard from a variety of speakers about the important forest issues involved and how we, as a community, might respond to an increase in native forest logging. The steering committee, established at the first community meeting in Nov 2013, was given overwhelming support to continue to develop a community response to VicForests and the Victorian government, about how we would like to see the forest managed.

In the 8+ years since that first meeting much has happened and much has been achieved. For detailed information about this journey, visit the project website (Our Strathbogie Forest) and Facebook page (Facebook page).

In 2019 the Victorian government declared the entire 24,000 ha Strathbogie Forest an Immediate Protection Area and committed to declaring the forest a reserve. In 2022 an expert panel was appointed by the Environment Minister, Hon Lily D’Ambrosio, to work with forest stakeholders to make recommendations about which reserve category and what sort of management will best suit the future of the forest. That process is currently underway (June 2022).
