Our Values Statement
Residents of Strathbogie Tableland were given the opportunity in April to contribute to the make-up of a community values statement through participation in an online survey. As explained at the time, the purpose of this statement is to provide a guiding reference for the Strathbogie Tableland Action Plan, ensuring that all elements of the plan are in harmony with the fundamental values expressed in the statement.
The survey responses clearly identified six key values that hold significance for the community, and these values are detailed in the following statement. We extend our gratitude to all those who participated in the survey. Your input was incredibly valuable and has culminated in a community values statement that we can be proud of.
Strathbogie Tableland Community Values Statement
We embrace a set of core values that guide our interactions and shape our collective identity. We believe in fostering a welcoming and inclusive community that celebrates diversity, respects every individual, and supports the well-being of our community members. We are committed to preserving and protecting nature, and to promoting environmental sustainability for the benefit of present and future generations. Together, we strive to create a community that thrives on these principles.
Respect:
We value and honour the dignity and worth of every individual in our community. We treat one another with kindness, empathy, and fairness, embracing open-mindedness and valuing diverse perspectives. We foster an environment where differences are celebrated, and all community members are heard and valued.
Inclusion:
We believe in building an inclusive community where every individual feels a sense of belonging, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, or socioeconomic background. We actively promote equal opportunities and seek to eliminate discrimination, bias, and prejudice in all aspects of community life.
Support:
We are committed to supporting one another in times of need. We foster a culture of compassion, understanding, and cooperation. We lend a helping hand, offer guidance, and provide resources to ensure the well-being and growth of all community members.
Diversity:
We recognize that diversity is a source of strength, innovation, and growth. We embrace the rich tapestry of cultures, perspectives, and experiences within our community. We actively seek to create an environment that appreciates and learns from our differences, fostering an inclusive community where everyone feels valued and respected.
Nature and Environmental Protection:
We cherish the natural beauty of our surroundings and recognize the importance of environmental stewardship. We strive to protect and preserve our local ecosystems, wildlife, and natural resources. Through education, sustainable practices, and collective action, we work to minimise our ecological footprint and promote a healthy environment for generations to come.
Sustainability:
We are committed to building a sustainable community that promotes responsible resource management and reduces our impact on the planet. We prioritize sustainable practices in areas such as energy consumption, waste management, transportation, and land use. We encourage sustainable lifestyles and support initiatives that advance renewable energy, conservation, and environmental sustainability.
In embracing these values, we foster a vibrant, harmonious, and inclusive community where every individual can thrive, and our environment is preserved for future generations. Together, we make a positive impact by respecting, supporting, and embracing the diverse voices that enrich our shared experience while working towards a sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
The STAG REPORT
Each month, we will post a summary of the most recent STAG meeting discussion points.
The STAG report from the meeting of 21st January 2024
STAG held their meeting at the Beautiful Boho South Hall.
Items discussed.
- Fran Kearney is the new golf representative on STAG committee.
- LEAP (Local Emergency Action Plan) program is underway with the first formal meeting to be held on 1st Feb at the Strathbogie Hall
- STAG contacted the Shire about the ongoing saga about repairing Harry’s Creek Road. The Shire gave an estimated completion date of early 2024.
- STAG have finalised the action plan points. This will be sent to Jean McKinnon at the Shire, who will complete it and make it available to all Tableland residents as soon as it is done.
- Because of the continuous disruptions to our power supply, STAG is setting up an Energy subcommittee, to investigate and source alternatives to help our community become more self-sustaining in the event of power disruptions.
- The Shire wants to amend the operating procedure and management of the generator at the Strathbogie recreation ground, which the members of STAG do not agree with. Further discussion on this is necessary.
- The Australia Day Committee held a Community BBQ/picnic at the Rec. reserve on 26th January for people to come and rest, eat, chat.
- Recycle bins are a terrible eyesore to our recreation reserve. There is a continual problem with sorting, landfill rubbish being put into bins and litter all around the area. Please use the recycle bins correctly and show you care about our environment.
- Wildlife signage is a high priority for our area and we will be pursuing the Shire to erect appropriate signage.
On Sunday 19th November 2023 STAG held a community consultation day.
This was the final consultation and the last time for the community to give input to our Strathbogie Tablelands Community Action Plan. It was a vibrant, positive, meeting with very good participation between the people who attended.
