Our Values Statement

Residents of Strathbogie Tableland were given the opportunity in April to contribute to the make-up of a community values statement through participation in an online survey. As explained at the time, the purpose of this statement is to provide a guiding reference for the Strathbogie Tableland Action Plan, ensuring that all elements of the plan are in harmony with the fundamental values expressed in the statement.

The survey responses clearly identified six key values that hold significance for the community, and these values are detailed in the following statement. We extend our gratitude to all those who participated in the survey. Your input was incredibly valuable and has culminated in a community values statement that we can be proud of.

Strathbogie Tableland Community Values Statement

We embrace a set of core values that guide our interactions and shape our collective identity. We believe in fostering a welcoming and inclusive community that celebrates diversity, respects every individual, and supports the well-being of our community members. We are committed to preserving and protecting nature, and to promoting environmental sustainability for the benefit of present and future generations. Together, we strive to create a community that thrives on these principles.

Respect:

We value and honour the dignity and worth of every individual in our community. We treat one another with kindness, empathy, and fairness, embracing open-mindedness and valuing diverse perspectives. We foster an environment where differences are celebrated, and all community members are heard and valued.

Inclusion:

We believe in building an inclusive community where every individual feels a sense of belonging, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, or socioeconomic background. We actively promote equal opportunities and seek to eliminate discrimination, bias, and prejudice in all aspects of community life.

Support:

We are committed to supporting one another in times of need. We foster a culture of compassion, understanding, and cooperation. We lend a helping hand, offer guidance, and provide resources to ensure the well-being and growth of all community members.

Diversity:

We recognize that diversity is a source of strength, innovation, and growth. We embrace the rich tapestry of cultures, perspectives, and experiences within our community. We actively seek to create an environment that appreciates and learns from our differences, fostering an inclusive community where everyone feels valued and respected.

Nature and Environmental Protection:

We cherish the natural beauty of our surroundings and recognize the importance of environmental stewardship. We strive to protect and preserve our local ecosystems, wildlife, and natural resources. Through education, sustainable practices, and collective action, we work to minimise our ecological footprint and promote a healthy environment for generations to come.

Sustainability:

We are committed to building a sustainable community that promotes responsible resource management and reduces our impact on the planet. We prioritize sustainable practices in areas such as energy consumption, waste management, transportation, and land use. We encourage sustainable lifestyles and support initiatives that advance renewable energy, conservation, and environmental sustainability.

In embracing these values, we foster a vibrant, harmonious, and inclusive community where every individual can thrive, and our environment is preserved for future generations. Together, we make a positive impact by respecting, supporting, and embracing the diverse voices that enrich our shared experience while working towards a sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

The STAG REPORT

Each month, we will post a summary of the most recent STAG meeting discussion points.

STAG update from April 2024 Meeting

STAG held their meeting at the Strathbogie Hall on Sunday 21st April at 9.30am finishing at 10.45am.

What does STAG stand for and what do they do???

Strathbogie Tablelands Action Group

We are a community elected committee of 12 members of the community.

We advocate for the entire tablelands, not just Strathbogie Township. There are several community groups and committees, and we all do something different but we are united by STAG

STAG will liaise with the relevant people in the shire for roads, footpaths, streetscapes, other capital works and initiate the communication needed to help the community to get funding through grants.

This month at our meeting we thought it would be a good idea for all the groups, committees and clubs to, once a year, in February, have a group meeting and pool all our ideas and need. To discuss and apply for grants as a whole community, so we can support each other’s endeavours and have a strategic approach to obtaining funding.

This will kick off for this financial year in June 16th when we will hold ‘The Grand Grant’ meeting.

The Strathbogie Council held the Strathbogie Tableland Local Area Emergency Plan (LEAP) Community consultation day on Sunday 21st April at the golf club, to hear what our community wants/ expects from the Council and other services to provide, after an emergency event hits our Tableland.

Roads

Creek Junction road is open but still doesn’t have lines marked.

Strathbogie road near Mt. Wombat turnoff is completed, with the turn into Mackrells Road greatly improved for large vehicles, trucks, tractors.

It looks like Harry’s Creek road upgrade is about to begin. Patience is needed from all of us, as this is a very big job, to be done properly this time, and will take considerable time.

Bonnie Doon road sides have been cleared from much of the debris after the storms.

Upper Boho road is still a work in process. Remember, if you have a problem with your road, put in an official report to the shire so they know where the problem is.

We are still in consultation with the Council in an attempt to have some type of signage warning of animals on our roads.

Log onto Strathbogie.vic.gov.au  under the “Services” tab, go to “Roads and grading” at the bottom of the page, you find the following:

*Keeping our roads safe and in good condition is important to Council. If there’s a problem on a road you use, contact Council so we can endeavour to fix it as soon as possible.

We will be having our next meeting on Sunday May 19th at 9.30am. Hopefully at the Boho South Hall.

Have a great month

  • STAG will document the 2024-2028 Strathbogie Tablelands Community Action Plan which will then require community members to help STAG deliver the Plan.
