'Bohogie' Music PDF

BoHoGie music sessions offer a safe and welcoming environment for families and individuals to have good old-fashioned music hall-style fun.

BoHoGie music nights, a project of the Violet Town Community House, started at the Boho South Hall in May 2006, as a opportunity for people who could play an instrument yet did not have a band to play in. The overwhelming response from the community has ensured that the nights continue and have been ongoing for over 2 years now.

The focus has always been on music ‘participation’ not ‘performance’ and this has encouraged many to pick up an instrument and participate or start to learn it, as well as a gig for those formally learning an instrument elsewhere. A typical night (if there is such a thing) starts at 7.30pm on the last Friday of the month. It might start with a group or an act playing their music, followed by anyone  who wishes to have a solo spot. Alternatively, we might choose to have  community group singing for those who wish to join in. You are likely to hear folk, country, blues and classic rock & roll music all in the same night.

Many sing along with the BoHoGie song books and this encourages others to sing well-known old classics even if they have never done so before.  Others play a percussion item and drum along with the main players in a supportive friendly environment which produces some excellent moments of satisfaction with a greater sense of community and music involvement.

Some people like to dance and there have been some impromptu old-time sessions for those inclined to experience dances which are very quickly being forgotten. Many just wish to listen and enjoy the companionship and discover the rich variety of instruments that are brought along which have included the usual stable of acoustic/electric, 6/12 string nylon, steel and bass guitars, violins, saxophone, banjo, double bass, keyboard, didgeridoo, button and piano accordions, fiddle, mandolin, flute, tin whistle, drums, harmonica and even a home made hurdy gurdy along with the hall’s piano and various percussion items.

B.Y.O. Food & drink. Tea and coffee is free all night with an admission price of $3 per adult; Children No Charge. We hope you will soon come along and experience this unique music night of sharing fun, song, dance and connections.
